On Tuesday 28 March Members of Parliament and landcarers from across the State gathered at Parliament House to Launch the Parliamentary Friends of Landcare.
Convened by Hon. Darren West MLC, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for the Environment; Climate Action; Racing and Gaming, Member for the Agricultural Region and Mr Shane Love MLA, Leader of the Opposition, Member for Moore, the WA Parliamentary Friends of Landcare Group will:
- recognise the network of individuals and organisations contributing to Landcare efforts across Western Australia, significantly the heritage, culture and contribution of our nation’s first people in the Landcare work of caring and healing of Country;
- promote the fundamental principles and values of Landcare in Western Australia;
- promote, raise awareness of and encourage participation in Landcare in Western Australia;
- facilitate communication between people and organisations working in Landcare and Members of Parliament; and
- provide opportunities for Members of Parliament to learn about Landcare provision in Western Australia and the issues involved in Landcare.
The night was very well attended by Members of Parliament, with some fantastic speeches including a welcome by Premier Mark McGowan. WALN Members who attended had a great opportunity to speak directly with our politicians about challenges and opportunities in landcare and to network with other landcare groups.
