ABC Country Hour has run a series on salinity, following the WA Auditor General’s report on the issue. The report concluded that ‘without some level of intervention, the area of land affected by salinity could more than double over the next 50 -100 years’.

WALN supported the Auditor General’s report with a Media Statement on May 21 expressing concern about the level of government commitment to addressing salinity issues in Western Australia and joining the WA Auditor General in calling for a renewed strategic focus and investment to combat the problem.  Read more about WALN’s concerns HERE.

WALN Chair, Keith Bradby featured in Part 2 of the ABC Country Hour series on 6 June giving a landcare perspective and stating that it is time to get practical about salinity and stop talking about policy and strategy. The program also provides an insight into what’s current being done on the ground to combat salinity and what is needed.
