WALN is calling on all active community landcare groups in WA to help with its ‘Who’s Who in the Landcare Zoo’ Program.
At its recent AGM and Networking Gathering, WALN launched the new program asking the broad range of grassroots landcare groups operating in WA to provide details of who they are and where they work.
WALN Chair, Keith Bradby said ‘To better represent Landcare and support your efforts we need a better understanding of the number of landcare groups operating across WA, and what priorities they are focused on.’ ‘The scale of the movement is not well appreciated within various levels of government, and we need to change that. So we are asking for help to understand how many landcare groups are out there. We are currently aware of around 500 active groups operating in the State, but believe the number could be double that’, he said.
In particular, WALN hopes to gather key information on: the number of community based landcare groups in WA, the types of groups which are operating in WA and their geographical and landcare interests.
Mr Bradby said ‘We believe a state-wide landcare database will be of great value to the landcare community in enabling greater collaboration and information sharing – all of which ultimately means better landcare.’ ‘Most importantly it will provide the data needed for us to advocate for greater support for grassroots landcare.’ Mr Bradby added.
How you can help?
Our Who’s Who in the Landcare Zoo’ Program is targeting all groups that undertake any activity contributing to the improvement of the natural environment.
This may include bushcare, coastal, wildlife conservation, rural landcare and indigenous groups, to name a few.
Groups may be a range of shapes and sizes and have varying interests.
We want to know about everyone with an interest in the environment! Everyone in the Landcare Zoo!
- VISIT our WHO’S WHO IN THE LANDCARE ZOO PAGE
- CHECK our Google Map to see if your group is on our map.
- COMPLETE our Community Landcare Group Form to ensure we have all your group’s details.
- SPREAD THE WORD to other groups you know to ensure we get everyone on the list.
WALN thanks you for contributing to more efficient and effective landcare in WA.
