Today WALN Chair, Mick Davis commended the State Government’s recent announcement to establish a new Traditional Fire Programs Coordinator role at Department of Fire and Emergency Services.
‘This is a great first step in ensuring traditional fire management practices of our aboriginal people become part of Western Australia’s efforts at reducing bushfire risk’, said Mr Davis.
The Coordinator position will help bring together Western Australia’s various traditional fire techniques and learnings with contemporary fire management to create new or adapted methods.
Kayteyte man Wayne Davis has been appointed to the new position and brings almost 40 years’ experience as a traditional fire practitioner and land management consultant.
