This Inaugural Conference is on the policy and practice of prescribed (controlled) burning in Australia. The focus will be on recent research, which can guide policy decisions and foster an informed public debate about:

• the risks and benefits of controlled burning as currently practiced;-
• whether the policy needs to be modified, particularly in the light of climate change, and, if so, in what ways
• if there are realistic alternatives or additional measures to reduce the incidence of and damage from bushfires.
