Rise Up Root Down – More from our Intrepid Landcarers

Great to see the second event on the ‘Rise Up Root Down’ calendar off and running. Mandy Carey from Busselton High School teamed up with Wadandi custodian Josh Whiteland from Koomal Dreaming in the first stage of the ‘Young Noongar Guide’ project.

Mandy and Josh have completed a training excursion with students from Busselton High School off-site program (Geo Training) teamed up with Koomal Dreaming to do a tour of Ngilgi Cave to learn all about the importance of the cave to Indigenous culture. Over the following weeks students will consolidate the knowledge that they learned to then lead an excursion themselves with the lower school indigenous students, imparting all of the knowledge that they learned on the first excursion.

Jamie Lumsdaine, the third event on the ‘Rise up Root Down’ calendar is nearing completion with his project to engage, inspire and instill action with students at the Margaret River High School. After presenting to a group of students and teachers on his trip to Sri Lanka collecting Marine Debris, they collectively decided that a key issue at their school was a lack of a recycling program. Since then they have proposed and sought a commitment from the school to set up a recycling system! Funds used from the’Rise up Root Down’ grant will be used to purchase recycling bins. From little things….

Fantastic to see our youth engaging in landcare activities. Thanks toIntrepid Landcare for partnering on the ‘Rise Up Root Down’ Campaign.
