Successful State NRM Community Stewardship Grants Announced

Most landcarers will by now be aware that the successful applications in the long awaited 2018 State NRM Community Stewardship Grants Round were announced last Thursday.

The 2018 funding round supported 111 community projects valued at $7.75 million. The full list of successful projects can be found HERE

WA Landcare Network would like to congratulate all landcare groups who were successful with their applications but also recognise that there was an awful lot of community based landcare groups that missed out.

This round of funding was very oversubscribed with 253 applications valued at over $42 million received by the State NRM Office. That’s a whopping $34.25 million worth of projects that landcare groups are keen to implement and haven’t received funding for.

WALN is currently analysing who and what has received funding and also who has missed out. WALN will continue to advocate for increased funding for community based landcare and will be having the conversations about how more State funding can reach community based groups, especially those at the local level.

For now we hope providing alternative funding sources might help some groups access the funding they need.

Alternate funding sources

  • LotteryWest Community Investment Framework Lotterywest and Healthway grants ensure that Western Australia’s health, sports and arts sectors, as well as thousands of local government authorities and not-for-profit groups are supported in their valuable contribution to the community. Protected Sustainable Ecosystems is one of the 5 priority areas of funding.

  • Local government – Why not approach your local government authority and see if you can work in with one of their environment programs or motivate your community to lobby for a local government Environment Fund to support local landcare efforts in your area.
  • Local business – Business sponsorship and partnerships can make landcare happen. Many businesses want to help support their local environment and community. Why not approach a local business to support your work.
  • Crowd Funding – Why not try crowd funding to raise landcare funds.  If your community is passionate about getting the job done try a local crowdfunding campaign. There is a range of crowd funding sites available includingwww.chuffed.org and www.gofundme.com.
